Birthdays Birth Days

Sunshine: "Why do they call it a birthday?"
Me: "Well because that is the day you were born."
Sunshine: "I was born on my birthday?!! Whoa-ho-ho-ho! That is so weird! And totally cool."

(Disclaimer - I don't have as many stories about Buddy and Happy because they are older and in school all day so I have half of a day with just me and Sunshine.)

Overheard from the backseat of the car...

Sunshine: That't not the color of my beaver!

WTH?

(FYI, just so social services isn't called - she was playing a coloring game on her DS and her sister had been messing with it. Scouts honor.)

Hidden Valley

One of my most amazing friends, who I have known for more than half of my life, has 4 equally amazing kids who are hi.lar.ious. This dinner time conversation proves that once again.

A: Mom, does all ketchup come from tomatoes?
M (aka the Know-It-All) in a very authoritative and wise voice: Of course it does, A. Just like all ranch is hiding in a valley."

Sunshine is at it again!

On the second day of school I picked up Sunshine and asked the customary "How was your day?"

Sunshine: "It was good. I made a new best friend."
Me: "Oh that is good! What is his or her name?"
Sunshine, turning to uber cute little girl, "What is your name?"
Little girl: "Abby."
Sunshine to me: "Her name is Abby," then turning to the little girl continues, "I am going to call you Emma now. Bye Emma!"

Wholesome Country Activities

This past weekend we went and spent a few days with one of my favorite Mommies and her 4 kiddos. This is a conversation I had with Buddy while we were there.

Me: "Hey Buddy, what is that book you are carrying"
Buddy: "It's a Bible."
Me, thinking "OMG!!!! He is so going to be a preacher! I've hit the mommy jack-pot!" but trying to play it cool, : "Oh really? Whatcha doing with that?"
A (friend's 8 year old son): "We were having a funeral."
Me (taking a quick head count of the younger siblings),: "Ummm, for who? Or what?"
Buddy: "For a stick bug,"
A: "And a stink beetle."
Me: "Oh, well that was nice of you."
Buddy: "Well the stick bug one was pretty short, but the stink bug one we did longer."
A: "Yeah, because we killed him."

A Disney Princess by Any Other Name...

Several years ago my girls began talking about Jazz-girl. I would frequently hear them saying things like "You be Cinderella and I'll be Jazz-girl," or whatever. I admit I had no flippin' idea what they were talking about but they were not fighting so I didn't ask. Then one day (months after this all started) Sunshine told me she wanted to see the Jazz-girl movie.

Ummm... what?

For several minutes I tried to figure out what she was talking about while she looked at me like I was a moron. Finally she let out a huge sigh and brought me this:

Ding!

"OH! You mean Jasmine!"

Again I get the look that says I am a moron, and a slow one at that.

"No mommy. She is a girl. Jazz-GIRL."

Jasmine = Jazz-man = Jazz-girl
